DENR NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION HANDS OVER TRASH COLLECTOR RICKSHAW BIKES TO BARANGAYS IN METRO MANILA

DENR National Capital Region hands over Trash Collector Rickshaw Bikes to 40 barangays in Metro Manila in a ceremony held last November 29, 2022 at the BMB Amphitheater of the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City.
The trikes, according to Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan, will help recipient barangays reach and provide trash collection services to their constituents, especially those living in areas that are inaccessible to garbage collection trucks.
“Our job in the national government is to capacitate and assist our partner local government units in their service delivery function, hence our constant coordination with them”, Director Caancan said.
“In the past, we have provided barangays with trash collector pushcarts, paddle boats, and trikes”, RED Caancan adds, “so they could help in the ongoing cleanup and rehabilitation of Manila Bay”. Under Section 10 of Republic Act No. 9003 or Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2001, barangays are tasked with the collection of biodegradable, compostable, and reusable wastes in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Director Caancan was joined by her Assistant Regional Directors Manuel T. Escasura (Management Services) and Engr. Ignacio R. Almira, Jr. (Technical Services), MBSCMO Focal, Forester Haidee D. Pabalate, and the Directors and Deputy Directors of the four DENR Metropolitan Environmental Offices of Metro Manila in the MOA signing and Turn Over Ceremony.
