Different youth organizations participated in the ecological tour organized by DENR National Capital Region inside the La Mesa Water Reservation area in Quezon City on Friday, 25 March 2022, to cap off the celebration of World Water Week.
7 different youth organizations from Barangay Payatas, Quezon joined the learning event organized by the Regional Strategic Communications and Initiatives Group (RSCIG), Production Forest Management Section (PFMS), and the regional Youth Desk office together with the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Payatas.
Foresters from the PFMS discussed the importance of watersheds and groundwater as the participants made their way to the La Mesa view deck. They also learned about how groundwater sustains ecosystems, maintains the baseflow of rivers, and prevents land subsidence and seawater intrusion.
“Groundwater: making the invisible visible” is this year’s theme for the celebration of World Water Day. It aims to put a spotlight on groundwater resources and enhance knowledge exchange and collaboration and increase peoples’ awareness of the importance of taking care of this important natural resource.
