DENR and DPWH are working double-time to finish Phase 2 of the Marikina River Rehabilitation Project under the Task Force Build Back Better (TF-BBB), as may be seen in the latest photo of the project which covers Barangays Santolan, Manggahan, and Rosario in Pasig City.

The Marikina River Rehabilitation Project aims to widen and deepen the Marikina River back to its original level, therewith increasing its capacity to absorb excess rainwater and water flow during storms, and thus prevent flooding.

Phase 1 of the project—which covers Barangays Barangka, Calumpang, and Industrial Valley in Marikina City—was completed last July 21, 2021. Phase 2 commenced on the same date.

DENR Sec. Roy A. Cimatu co-chairs the TF-BBB with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), an inter-agency body created by President Rodrigo R. Duterte to ensure post-disaster rehabilitation and recovery efforts in typhoon-hit areas like Metro Manila, Cagayan, and Bicol.

DENR National Capital Region complements the engineering interventions of the DPWH through bamboo planting and rehabilitation of eroded riverbanks and other nature-based solutions to flooding.
