DENR National Capital Region Regional Executive Director, Jacqueline A. Caancan, together with Ret. Gen. Alfredo Andres, head of the MMDA-Manila Bay Cleanup Operation Center and his staff, and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Las Pinas City government conducted an ocular inspection of the Las Pinas and Zapote River on Friday, 31 January 2020.

Accompanying them are representatives from DENR-NCR South Field Office, Manila Bay Site Coordinating/Management Office-NCR, and EMB National Capital Region.

The ocular was done to see improvements in the river system in terms of solid and liquid waste management, as well as recovery of legal easements and rehabilitation of riparian ecosystems. RED Caancan ordered the SFO to intensify its monitoring and coordination with counterparts from the provincial government of Cavite in the implementation of the #BattleForManilaBay. Zapote River serves as the natural boundary between Metro Manila and Calabarzon Region.
