DENR National Capital Region welcomes the participants to the LGU Forum on Urban Nature-based Solutions

DENR National Capital Region Assistant Regional Director Engr. Ignacio R. Almira, Jr. welcomes the participants to the LGU Forum on Urban Nature-based Solutions organized by the Climate Change Division of EMB Central Office on Friday, 24 January 2020, in Manila.

In his speech, ARD Almira emphasized the need to balance and complement technology-based solutions with nature-based options in addressing climate change. Not only are nature-based solutions cost-effective in the long term, these also have additional socio-economic benefits for the environment, citizens, and the local economy.

For instance, enhancing and protecting our coastal ecosystems as a means of protecting local communities against the impacts of sea-level rise or storm surges also have the potential of increasing local tourism, thereby providing additional livelihood opportunities to residents in the process.
