DENR National Capital Region through its South Field Office (SFO), retrieved two Reticulated pythons (Malayopython reticulatus) in Muntinlupa City on Tuesday, 24 March 2021.
The snakes, listed as species of Least Concern (in terms of conservation) by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), were handed over to the SFO by officers of the Muntinlupa Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the Engineering Department respectively.
The pythons were taken to the Wildlife Rescue Center in Quezon City for evaluation and custody until determined suited for release into the wild. Encounters between humans and wild animals have become quite frequent over the years because of growing incursions of human settlements in natural ecosystems.
