To celebrate World Bamboo Day, DENR National Capital Region planted 500 pcs. Kawayang Tinik (Bambusa Blumeana) and 500 pcs. Kawayang Bayog (Bambusa Blumenau variety Luzonensis) at the La Mesa Water Reservation area in Quezon City last September 17, 2021. Joining the regional office in the activity are personnel from the Forest Management Bureau (FMB) and ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation Inc. - Bantay Kalikasan.
Under Executive Order 879, the Philippine Bamboo Industry council was created to promote the development and market access of bamboo products to sustain the development of the bamboo industry in the country.
Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world, and it can grow as much as one meter in 24 hours. As a plant, it absorbs carbon dioxide and can generate up to 35% more oxygen than the same amount of trees and when it is harvested, it will continue to grow with no additional planting or cultivation.
