DENR National Capital Region through its West Field Office (WFO) and Manila Bay Site Coordinating and Management Office (MBSCMO), join members of the San Juan River System Water Quality Management Area in the application of effective microorganisms for Maytunas Creek in Barangay Addition Hills, Mandaluyong City on Thursday, 14 January 2021.

EMB National Capital Region Regional Director Atty. Domingo M. Clemente, Jr., together with Mr. Sonny Oblea, Head of Mandaluyong City Environmental and Management Department, Barangay Addition Hills Chair Carlito Cernal and representatives of EM Research PhiIippines, Inc., applied eight (8) 150L containers of Effective Microorganism (EM) activated solution and two hundred (200) pieces of bokashi or fermented organic mud balls on Maytunas Creek, a tributary of San Juan River.

EM technology uses naturally occurring microorganisms in purifying and reviving degraded/polluted water bodies. EM helps reduce sediments in water and control the growth of algae and nutrients.

The activity was conducted in line with the on-going rehabilitation of Manila Bay.
