DENR NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION ORGANIZED COMMUNITY PANTREE IN MAKATI CITY IN CELEBRATION OF PHILIPPINE ARBOR DAY

DENR National Capital Region, through the DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office-West (MEO-West) and the Conservation Development Division–Production Forest Management Section (CDD-PFMS), organized a Community PanTREE in Barangay San Isidro, Makati City on Saturday, 25 June 2022, to celebrate Philippine Arbor Day.

The regional office provided free seedlings of vegetables and fruit-bearing trees to residents. Prior to the distribution of seedlings, Forester Rodelina M. De Villa, OIC Director of MEO-West, discussed the significance of Philippine Arbor Day, the importance of planting trees, and how it can help address concerns related to climate change and food security among others.

The Community PanTREE is DENR National Capital Region’s take on the civil society-led initiative to help people in need amidst the health emergency lockdowns imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But instead of food and other essentials, the regional office gave away free seedlings to the public to encourage them in backyard or urban farming.
