DENR National Capital Region, through its East Field Office (EFO), led a cleanup activity at Barangay Maybunga in Pasig City on Wednesday, 27 October 2021.
Joining the EFO are the Estero Rangers assigned to the area as well as representatives from Barangay Maybunga.The team removed a total of 400 sacks of water hyacinths from the Marikina River.
Water hyacinths have been found polluting the shores of Manila Bay. To prevent invasive plant species from reaching Manila Bay through the Pasig-Marikina-San Juan (PAMARISAN) River System, Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan has ordered the four field offices of DENR National Capital Region to conduct regional removal of water hyacinths in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
DENR National Capital Region is leading efforts in Metro Manila to clean, rehabilitate and preserve Manila Bay and its tributary rivers and esteros.
