DENR National Capital Region led by Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan, joined the office of Valenzuela City District 2 Representative and Deputy Speaker, Hon. Eric M. Martinez, and North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation President and General Manager, J. Luigi L. Bautista in a ceremonial tree planting activity at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Smart Connect Interchange in Barangay Ugong, Valenzuela City on Monday, 21 June 2021.
The activity was conducted in line with the celebration of Philippine Environment Month and Philippine Arbor Day on Friday, 25 June 2021. Director Caancan along with Conservation and Development Division (CDD) Chief, Forester Aida E. Esguerra, Production Forest Management Section (PFMS) Chief, Forester Arturo G. Calderon, and National Greening Project (NGP) Operation Center Head, Forester Benedicto C. Paguyo, participated in the tree planting of species such as Igem-dagat (Dacrycarpus imbricatus), Palawan Cherry (Cassia megalantha Decne), and Bougainville in the area in support of the urban greening efforts of NLEX.
Director Caancan lauded the efforts of NLEX Corporation and enjoined other private companies to initiate greening projects in their area of operations. “Not only do trees help improve the environment with their ability to absorb pollutants and dissipate heat, but it also helps our employees and all the people who see urban greens to relax and mellow out and this is on top of increasing the value of the land where the trees and plants grow.”, Director Caancan explained.
She added that the DENR National Capital Region is very much willing to partner with groups and organizations in Metro Manila in their greening efforts. “The importance of trees in urban areas cannot be overstated. We need trees to make our cities sustainable and liveable”, Director Caancan emphasized.
