DENR National Capital Region Assistant Regional Directors, Dr. Al O. Orolfo for Management Services and Engr. Ignacio R. Almira, Jr. for Technical Services visited the La Mesa Watershed Reservation Area in Quezon City on Friday, 24 September 2021.

They were there to inspect some National Greening Program (NGP) planting sites in the area and see what further improvements could be made. Production Forest Management Section Chief Arturo G. Calderon and his staff provided information and assistance to Assistant Directors Orolfo and Almira during their visit.

The La Mesa Watershed Reservation area was established in 2007 under Proclamation No. 1336. It covers an area of 2,659 hectares (6,570 acres) and is situated in the northern part of Metro Manila. Apart from being the only major watershed of the region, it also hosts the La Mesa Dam which, together with the Angat and Ipo Dams in Bulacan, serves as the main source of potable water for Metro Manila.

The NGP is one of the flagship programs of DENR. It was established under Executive Order No. 26, series of 2011 to reforest the country and promote poverty reduction, food and job security, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
