Estero Rangers, under the West Field Office (WFO) of DENR National Capital Region, carefully pick up plastic trash off the shores of Manila Bay in the Baywalk Area, Malate, Manila as part of their regular cleanup activity. According to a recent World Bank report (“Market Study for the Philippines: Plastics Circularity Opportunities and Barriers”, World Bank, Washington, DC., 2021), the Philippines generates around 2.7 million tons of plastic waste a year. Of these, about 20 percent – or 540 thousand tons – end up in the ocean, if we want to #SaveManilaBay thus, we need to stop consuming products packed in single-use plastics.
