
DENR National Capital Region, through its West Field Office (WFO) conducted a webinar on Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) Laws for barangay officials on Friday, 14 August 2020.
The webinar was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning session dealt with the Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines (Presidential Decree No. 705, as amended), Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001 (Republic Act No. 9147), and Climate Change Act of 2009 (Republic Act No. 9729). The afternoon session, meanwhile, focused on the State of Manila Bay, Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 (Republic Act No. 9275), and Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (Republic Act No. 9003).
Officials and representatives of barangays along the waterways participated in the online learning event aimed at orienting them on their role in the implementation of ENR laws at their level. Sangguniang Kabataan officials likewise participated in the event.
WFO is one of the four Field Offices of DENR National Capital Region established under Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2019-02. It has administrative jurisdiction over the cities of Manila, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Makati, and Pasay. The offce is closely coordinating efforts to clean, rehabilitate and preserve the rivers, esteros, and other waterways with the local government and other private and civil society organizations within their area of jurisdiction, in keeping with the ridge-to-reef approach that DENR has adopted in for the rehabilitation of Manila Bay.
