In line with the celebration of International Youth Day 2020, DENR National Capital Region, through its Youth Desk Office (YDO), conducted a webinar entitled “Engaging the Youth in the Rehabilitation of Manila Bay” on Wednesday, 12 August 2020.
The webinar was done with the help of the Regional Public Affairs Office (RPAO) of DENR National Capital Region, Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB), and the National Youth Commission (NYC). It was attended by the advisers and selected officers of Youth for Environment in Schools-Organization (YES-O) of Pasig City.
DENR National Capital Region Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan started the learning event and emphasized the importance of the activity to raise the level of awareness and involvement of the youth sector in the on-going implementation of Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program. Director Caancan emphasized the role of the youth in nation-building, particularly on the protection and sustainable use of our environment and natural resources. Director Caancan added that the DENR is very much willing to provide avenues for meaningful, universal, and equitable participation of the youth in its projects and activities—and in helping the youth to develop as empowered citizens.
The learning event provided the participants with information on the state of Manila Bay, biodiversity, and the aspirations and dreams of the youth with the survey conducted by NYC. “Youth Engagement for Global” is the theme for this year’s International Youth Day celebration. International Youth Day is celebrated every year to draw attention to the importance and value of young people and mainstream their voices, actions, and initiatives.
