DENR National Capital Region through its West Field Office, conducted a post-typhoon cleanup on the shores of Baseco Beach in Port Area, Manila following the aftermath of typhoon Fabian last week.
WFO deployed all of its personnel, together with one hundred sixteen Estero Rangers, in the conduct of the cleanup. Joining them in the effort are representatives from Pasig River Coordinating and Management Office (PCRMO), the Department of Public Services (DPS) of Manila City government, and the Metro Manila Development Authority.
Despite strong winds and downpours, the clean-up team managed to collect a total of five thousand two hundred (5,200) sacks of mixed solid waste and water hyacinths.
Baseco, as with the rest of the coastal areas of Metro Manila, lies directly in the path of the southwest monsoon or Habagat. As such, trash disposed of in other parts of Manila Bay is pushed directly to Baseco among other coastal areas of Metro Manila.
