DENR NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION CONDUCTS NGP SITE VISIT AT THE LA MESA WATERSHED RESERVATION AREA

DENR National Capital Region Assistant Regional Director for Management Services, Manuel T. Escasura, Production Forest Management Section (PFMS) Chief Arturo G. Calderon and his staff braved an early morning hike at the La Mesa Water Reservation area in Quezon City to check the status of National Greening Program (NGP) sites on Friday, 13 January 2023.

The NGP is the flagship reforestation program of the government. The program started in 2011 with the issuance of Executive Order No. 26 by then President Benigno Aquino III directing the DENR, the Department of Agriculture (DA), and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) to plant 1.5 billion trees in 1.5 million hectares of lands of the public domain for a period of six (6) years from 2011 to 2016. In 2015, President Aquino issued Executive Order No. 193 extending the program from 2016 to 2028 and expanding its scope to include all the unproductive, denuded, and degraded forestlands estimated at 7.1 million hectares.
