DENR NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION CONDUCTS 2ND QUARTER BIRD COUNTING AND MONITORING

DENR National Capital Region conducted its quarterly bird counting and monitoring in Manila Bay from April 27-29, 2022.

The activity, led by the Conservation and Development Division (CDD), takes place in several known bird-watching areas on the coasts of Las Piñas, Manila, Navotas, and Parañaque to count the number of bird species—migratory and resident—found in the area. Data from the activity is collated, analyzed, and used as a basis for crafting policies and interventions to protect and conserve known bird habitats along Manila Bay. As birds are sensitive to changes in their surroundings, they are reliable indicators of environmental health. A decline in the number of birds seen in an area usually signifies negative changes in their habitat and vice-versa.
