DENR NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION CONDUCTED LEARNING ACTIVITY ON BAMBOO SPECIES FOR RIVERBANK STABILIZATION

DENR National Capital Region conducted a 2-day learning activity on the Propagation, Management, and Utilization of Bamboo Species for Riverbank Stabilization last July 27 to 28, 2022 in Los Baños, Laguna.

A total of seventy (70) participants from selected barangays of Metro Manila attended the learning activity which combined lectures and hands-on training. According to Forester Arturo G. Calderon, Production Forest Management Section (PFMS) Chief and NGP Focal Person, the training is intended to inform the participants on the use of bamboo in riverbank stabilization and habitat restoration.

Bamboo experts from the DENR Forest Management Bureau (FMB) and Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) served as resource speakers.

DENR National Capital Region OIC Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services, Engr. Ignacio R. Almira, Jr., meanwhile, served as keynote speaker. He advised the participants to focus on the training as the effective application of their learnings could benefit society through improved ecosystem services. “If we are successful in the integration, propagation, and utilization of bamboo in our National Greening Project (NGP), we would be helping people address key environmental issues, including the cleanup and rehabilitation of Manila Bay through the restoration of riparian ecosystems”, Engr. Almira said.
