DENR National Capital Region OIC Assistant Regional Director for Management Services Manuel T. Escasura and Schools Division Office (SDO) of Valenzuela City School Division Superintendent Dr. Meliton P. Zubrano signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Urban Greening on 27 April 2022 via videoconferencing app.
According to ARD Escasura, the partnership on the Urban Greenings is very important for the regional office as Metro Manila is known as a ‘concrete jungle’. He said the thrust of the regional office, in conjunction with the 10 priority programs of DENR, is to improve and increase green spaces in the region to make its cities and municipality climate-resilient and environmentally healthy.
Under the agreement, DENR National Capital Region will help SDO Valenzuela establish and maintain a garden in the schools under its office. The regional office will supply seedlings and assist school administrators in planting a variety of ornamental, vegetable, and fruit-bearing trees in their area. Also, as part of its environmental education program, the said SDO will organize a series of webinars for its teachers and students, especially those part of environment-related organizations.
Dr. Baltazar M. Gayem, Chief Education Supervisor, School Governance and Operations Division of SDO Valenzuela, Engr. Ignacio R. Almira, Jr., Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services of DENR National Capital Region, stood as witness to the ceremonial signing facilitated by the Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Group (RSCIG).
