DENR National Capital Region Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan and San Francisco Elementary School (SFES) Principal Cecilia C. Alba signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Urban Greening via videoconferencing app.

Under the MOA, DENR National Capital Region will assist SFES in the establishment and maintenance of its garden. The regional office, in particular, will provide seedlings and training and help school administrators plant their area with a mix of ornamental, vegetable, and fruit-bearing trees. SFES, on the other hand, SFES agrees to host a series of webinars for its Grade 5 & 6 students as part of its environmental education program. SFES likewise would help ensure that their students will actively involve themselves in the maintenance of the garden and in other environment-related activities.

RED Caancan expressed her appreciation for the initiative of SFES administrators and noted that the signing of the MOA is but the start of a meaningful partnership between the regional office and the school. She explained that DENR National Capital Region is expanding its partnership program to promote and spread environmental consciousness among our fellow citizens, especially the youth.

“A healthy Mother Earth is not an option; it is a necessity”, she explained.

Teacher Jinky A. Iglesias, Chairman of Environment Natural Management of SFES and Assistant Regional Director for Technical Services, Engr. Ignacio R. Almira, Jr. stood as witnesses in the ceremonial signing. Production Forest Management Section (PFMS) Chief, Forester Arturo G. Calderon, East Field Office (EFO) Deputy Chief Environment Officer, Florencio Diwa Jr., and other faculty members of the SFES also attended the activity.
