DENR National Capital Region and Alpha Phi Omega (APO) Philippines, Inc. sign an agreement on urban greening on Thursday, 16 December 2021, at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP).

Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the regional office while Atty. Norma Singson-De Leon represented APO. Under the agreement, APO will adopt a 2-hectare forest enrichment area at the La Mesa Watershed Reservation in Quezon City and conduct tree growing and caring activities for three years in support of the Enhanced National Greening Program (E-NGP) of DENR.

Conservation and Development Division (CDD) chief Aida E. Esguerra and LPPWP Protected Area Superintendent Aleine Marie Miranda stood as witnesses to the MOA signing for DENR National Capital Region. Mr. Joel Roque N. Alivia, National Chairman on the Committee on Environment, meanwhile, stood for APO.

Before the signing of the agreement, APO and its members conducted a cleanup on the shorelines of Freedom Island, one of the two landmasses that make up the LPPWP. They also attended a short briefing on the importance of LPPWP as a wetland area and the number of mangrove trees and migratory bird species that it hosts, most notably the famed Philippine Duck (Anas luzonica).
