DENR MEO WEST CONDUCTS REMOVAL OF WATER HYACINTHS ALONG BASECO BEACH AREA

DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office-West personnel and Estero Rangers of Barangay 649 in Port Area, Manila remove piles of water hyacinths (𝘌𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘱𝘦𝘴) off the beach area of Baseco. Water hyacinths have been infesting the waters of Manila Bay again with the onset of the rainy season. Usually found plaguing the rivers and esteros of Metro Manila, water hyacinths are flushed out into Manila Bay by heavy rains. Southwest monsoon winds (𝘩𝘢𝘣𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘵) and waves, however, drive the water hyacinths back to the shoreline. DENR MEO-West and the Estero Rangers removed a total of 486 sacks of water hyacinths from the shore.
