The DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office-West (MEO-West) conducted a cleanup in a portion of Estero de Provisor in Barangay 661, Ermita, Manila on Thursday, 4 August 2022.
300 sacks of water hyacinths were removed from the waterway by the combined personnel of MEO-West and Estero Rangers assigned to the area. Estero de Provisor is a short waterway that surrounds Isla de Provisor, a small island along the stretch of Pasig River that used to house the Manila Thermal Power Plant until its decommissioning in 2000. The waterway connects Estero de Balete and Estero del Tanque to the Pasig River. Removing water hyacinths in Estero de Provisor and other waterways in Metro Manila is part of the rehabilitation program for Manila Bay.
