A concerned citizen from Deparo, North Caloocan City surrendered a Philippine Swamphen (Porphyrio pulverulentus) to the DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office - North on Tuesday, 11 January 2022.
According to the concerned citizen, he found the waterbird limping near a creek. Upon closer inspection, he found out that the bird's leg was injured so he immediately sought assistance from the MEO-North.
In response, MEO-North dispatched a team to retrieve the bird. The bird was taken to the Wildlife Rescue Center at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City for temporary custody and care under Section 28 of Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001.
