DENR MEO NORTH PRESENTS MANILA BAY UPDATES TO LOCAL INTER AGENCY COMMITTEE OF CALOOCAN CITY

DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office-North (MEO-North) Deputy Director Olga O. Arzadon presents the status of waterways and clean-up activities of Estero Rangers to the members of the Local Inter-Agency Committee (LIAC) of Caloocan City. MEO-North was invited by the LIAC to discuss updates on the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program and the delineation of legal easements along the Tullahan River.

Dep. Dir. Arzadon suggested the creation of a joint Caloocan-Navotas Task Force to coordinate efforts in the cleanup of Manila Bay as well as the recovery and maintenance of easements. Article 51 of Presidential Decree No. 1067 or the Philippine Water Code prohibits the construction of “structures of any kind” along the “banks of rivers and streams and the shores of the seas and lakes throughout their entire length and within a zone of three (3) meters in urban areas”. Dep. Dir. Arzadon emphasized the critical role of Local Government Units (LGUs) in the recovery of easements along waterways to ensure the success of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program.
