The DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office-East (MEO-East) organized a face-to-face learning activity with officials, community leaders, and street sweepers of Barangay Tandang Sora in Quezon City on Ecological Solid Waste Management (Republic Act No. 9003). Before the activity, MEO-East administered a pre-test to ascertain what the participants knew about the topic. Of the 31 participants, the majority could answer only 5 out of the 10 questions correctly. After the presentation and discussion, a post-test was conducted, showing a marked improvement. The participants were thankful for the activity as it allowed them to clarify and correct certain beliefs and ideas about solid waste management. MEO-East hopes that this change in beliefs and ideas would sooner translate into changes in behavior and practices as well. The activity is part of the Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) campaign of DENR National Capital Region in support of the ongoing rehabilitation and cleanup of Manila Bay.
