Volunteers from Bantay Bayan Rider’s Association of the Philippines (BBRAP) conduct cleanup at the Baseco beach area in Barangay 649, Port Area, Manila on Saturday, 25 June 2022. The activity, participated by twenty (20) members of the rider’s group coming from different parts of Metro Manila and the neighboring province of Cavite, removed twelve (12) sacks of plastic waste from the beachfront. Baseco is one of the communities that line the coast of Manila Bay in Metro Manila. During Habagat season, trash thrown in other areas is swept into its shores by wind and wave action. Volunteer cleanup efforts, such as those by the BBRAP, help prevent the accumulation of trash in the beach area. From 2019 to the present, DENR National Capital Region, together with the MMDA, the Department of Public Services (DPS) of Manila City Hall, and other partner organizations, have successfully rehabilitated the beach area once notorious for inch-thick trash strewn all over.
