It was “back-to-school” again for some employees of DENR National Capital Region following the start of their classes for the Master in Public Administration (MPA) program of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) on Saturday, 11 December 2021.

The employees, most of whom have been away from school for a long time, have availed of the off-campus program of PLM’s School of Government made possible under a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DENR National Capital Region and PLM.

Regional Executive Director Jacqueline A. Caancan explained that the program is offered to all employees of the regional office, regardless of their employment status. “So long as they meet the requirements and standards set by PLM for its students and they are interested in doing graduate work, management will support them”, Director Caancan said.

“We partnered with PLM and volunteered to host the program because we want our employees to have access to quality education at a minimum cost”, Director Caancan explained. “One of our objectives in pushing through with the program is to help our employees develop professionally and advance their careers”, Director Caancan said. Employees with extensive training and educational background, she explains, enjoy an advantage over others in terms of hiring and promotion.

Another reason the regional office is encouraging its employees to study further is that it firmly believes higher education will improve the performance of the organization. “We believe that good education will not only result with highly skilled employees but, more importantly, public servants who embody the DENR core values of Discipline, Excellence, Nobility and Responsibility”.  Meanwhile, the first batch of DENR-NCR employees who availed of the program in 2019 is set to graduate next year despite delays brought by the pandemic.
