DENR-NCR conducts lecture on urban wetlands

February 2, 2018

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) celebrated World Wetlands Day (WWD) 2018 by conducting an environmental education activity (Dalaw-Turo) on Friday, 2 February 2018, at the multi-purpose hall of Barangay Greater Lagro in Quezon City.

The lecture was participated by eighty (80) Grade 9 students from Lagro High School and focused on the importance of wetlands and its role in making the cities livable.

In addition to the lecture, it also featured an experiential learning activity that aimed to illustrate to the participants the impact of improper waste management on wetlands and their community-at-large.

Organized and facilitated by the Regional Public Affairs Office (RPAO) of DENR-NCR and in coordination with the Environmental Education and Information Unit (EEIU) of the Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region (EMB-NCR), the event was supported by Barangay Greater Lagro’s Youth Committee Chair Kagawad Romeo “Raby” Buenafe.

WWD 2018 is celebrated under the theme of “Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future—Making Urban Cities Liveable”. It intends to emphasize the role of the wetlands in providing multiple values, functions, and benefits to the community, and draw attention on the need to manage these resources wisely and conserve it for future generation.
