DENR National Capital Region intercepts 757 pieces of Tarantula at Central Mail Exchange Center

The Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Unit (WTMU) of DENR National Capital Region and Bureau of Customs (BOC) intercepted 757 pieces of Tarantula at Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City.

The arachnids were found concealed in cereal and tea boxes sent here from Krakow, Poland.

There were also more small boxes that contained cartridges and tubes containing Tarantula sling. In total, the cartridges have 42 pieces of tarantula while the plastic tubes enclosed 715 pieces for a grand total of 757 pieces of Tarantula.

Under Section 27 of Republic Act 9147 or "Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001", it is illegal to collect, hunt, possess, trade or transport wildlife without a permit from DENR and/or other local and international wildlife regulatory bodies.
