July 4, 2018

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) celebrated its 31st Founding Anniversary on Wednesday, 4 July 2018 at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center (NAPWC) in Diliman, Quezon City.

The NAPWC Amphitheater was filled to the rafters as Department Undersecretaries, Assistant secretaries, bureau directors, regional directors and assistant regional directors came in full force. They were joined by former DENR Secretaries and officials and employees of the regional and provincial offices of regions 1, 2, 3, 4-A and 4-B, 12 and the National Capital Region.

Echoing this year’s theme “Ikaw, Ako, Tayo ang Kalikasan”, DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu reminded the public in his speech that “environmental protection is not the government’s responsibility alone because everyone has a part to play in protecting the environment from damage."

The event coincided with the birthday of Sec. Cimatu who had no less than President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as Guest of Honor.

But apart from greeting DENR and the Secretary a happy birthday, the President stayed on to lead the awarding of Residential Free Patent titles to 75 families coming from the cities of Makati, Parañaque, Taguig, Valenzuela and Municipality of Pateros.

The President also stood witness to the turn-over of DENR-confiscated lumber to Task Force Bangon Marawi.

In his speech, President Duterte hailed Sec. Cimatu for successfully leading the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force in rehabilitating the world famous tourist destination. The President also commended department’s “Handog Titulo” program.

DENR was created on June 10, 1986 through Executive Order 192 of former president Corazon Aquino.
