World Water Day 2018

DENR-NCR celebrates World Water Day 2018

March 15, 2018

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) celebrated the World Water Day 2018 by conducting Lakbay Manila Bay on Thursday, 15 March 2018.

The environmental exposure and educational program took the participating Youth Desk Officers (YDO) from different bureaus and regional offices of DENR to the La Mesa Watershed Arboretum Park, East La Mesa Water Treatment Plant, Olandes Water Treatment Plant and a prototype Eco House in Marikina City.

Ms. Maria Magnolia Q. Danganan, DENR National Youth Coordinator, said that Lakbay Manila Bay, with its focus on urban ecosystems, would really help to educate more people in appreciating the environment in Metro Manila. “The program is very informative and people would get to appreciate the green spaces in the National Capital Region”, she added.

The learning activity is organized by the Regional Public Affairs Office (RPAO) of the DENR-NCR in partnership with the Environmental Education and Information Unit (EEIU) of the Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region (EMB-NCR). It intends to show the importance of various natural ecosystems in Metro Manila and how residents of the region benefit from the services these provide.

Lakbay Manila Bay is designed by the RPAO to showcase the connection of existing urban and natural ecosystems in the region following the “ridge-to-reef” approach. It combines environmental lectures, field exposure, and fun and experiential learning activities.

WWD is a yearly celebration around the world focusing the significance of water. This year’s theme is “Nature for Water”—exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges in the 21st century.
