Boy Scouts earn Ecology Merit Badge

March 3, 2018

Boy Scouts from Moonwalk National High School in Parañaque City look after recently planted mangrove saplings at the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA) on Saturday, 03 March 2018.

Around 23 boy scouts, headed by Ms. Mabelle Valdeleon, took the early morning trip to LPPCHEA to check on the condition of the saplings they have previously planted. The activity, which intends to encourage boy scouts to have a holistic awareness of the natural world and of the impact of their day-to-day actions on the environment, is part of the World Scout Environment Programme (WSEP) of the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

Under the program, participating scouts earn a Merit Badge on Ecology upon completion of five (5) WSEP Aims with its corresponding activities and the conduct and/or participation to environmental projects.

OIC Regional Director Jaqueline A. Caancan praised the participating boy scouts and their coordinator for choosing LPPCHEA as venue for their activity. She also commended the programme for “instilling in the minds of our youth the idea of responsible stewardship and care for the environment.”
