DENR-NCR, EMB-NCR lead MOA signing on “Adopt-an-Estero”

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-National Capital Region (DENR-NCR) and Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region (EMB-NCR) led the signing of Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs) for new partners of “Adopt-an-Estero” program on Thursday, 1 February 2018, at the Hive Hotel in Quezon City.

Four (4) new donor/partners entered into an agreement with the EMB-NCR to adopt and care for stretches of waterways or esteros near their respective offices. These include the Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR), SGS Philippines Inc., Makati Commercial Estate Association, and Our Lady of Fatima University-Valenzuela Campus.

 

The donor/partners agree to collaborate with the local government (barangay) and communities near the adopted esteros in the development and implementation of action plans leading to the rehabilitation of the water body.

Present during the MOA signing are DENR-NCR Regional Director Lourdes C. Wagan; EMB-NCR Regional Director Vizminda A. Osorio; Department of Health-NCR Regional Director Dr. Ariel Valencia; Department of the Interior and Local Government-NCR/DRRM Focal Person Jonas Abot; Department of Public Works and Highways-NCR representative Engr. Norma Bascos, and Metro Manila Development Authority representative Engr. Nelson Cabigas.

“Adopt-an-Estero” program is one of the flagship programs of DENR. It aims to promote Private-Public Partnership in the care of esteros and waterways and sustain it for future generations. To date, the program has fifty-one (51) partner/donors in Metro Manila since it started in year 2010.
