Quintana (extreme right) hold their planting tools to express their support and participation to the first-ever “National Ecology Center: Landscaping Contest 2017”.

Launched in time of World Environment Day celebration on Monday, 05 June 2017, the contest aimed to enhance the plants and trees at the National Ecology Center (NEC) and is open to the different divisions of DENR-NCR. The contest will run from 5 June 2017 to July 28, 2017 and announcement of the winner will be on July 31, 2017.

The NEC currently houses three government offices, namely the DENR-NCR, the Environmental Management Bureau-National Capital Region (EMB-NCR) and the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA). It is located along East Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City (in between Lung Center of the Philippines and Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas and is regularly frequented by clients of said offices.

DENR-NCR Regional Director Lourdes C. Wagan expressed hope that the contest will not only help improve the existing gardens at the NEC but promote camaraderie and teamwork among the officials and employees of the agency as well. This, she says, will help improve over-all client experience as NEC visitors will not only be treated with a view of well-maintained gardens but be accommodated by efficient and happy DENR-NCR employees.
