Exhibit at Senate showcases LPPCHEA

February 20, 2017

The “Wetland Wonders of the Philippines” exhibit opened at the Senate on Monday, 20 February 2017.  Organized by the office of Sen. Cynthia A. Villar, the exhibit featured the Las Piñas-Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA), along with six other sites in the Philippines recognized as Wetlands of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention.

The LPPCHEA, which is managed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-National Capital Region (DENR-NCR), is a 175 hectare wetland area south of Metro Manila and is known for its diverse collection of mangroves trees and birds.

Photo shows (from left to right) Senators Nancy Binay, Loren Legarda, Villar and DENR-NCR Regional Director Lourdes C. Wagan during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The exhibit was conducted in celebration of World Wetlands day on February 2 and is intended to highlight the importance of protecting and conserving our wetland resources in the survival of marine resources and in disaster risk prevention.
